The ancient coin

My fellow seekers

The heart of the ring of mountains is teaching us how to embrace the ancient coin of life and death. Just as a wave crashing upon the shore pulls us in as it recedes back to the vast ocean, the death of a loved one pulls one inwards to our own inner core.

A week ago, my aunt passed away and it made me realise how fleeting life can be and how we need to learn to appreciate the waves that are touching our toes each moment, for soon they too will go back into the ocean, never to be seen as that expression of the wave again.

What if we can learn to give our attention to that which is in front of us right now, because who knows about the next moment? If we disregard everyone while they are in our presence but hope to live a beautiful life with them in a future time, how can we be so sure that either one of us will still remain for the premiere of that dream?

Is death as dark as we perceive it to be? For it illuminates the fact that every moment in life is precious and that we should live it fully so that we won't have to conceptually replay our half-lived lives. As I was pondering over her death, I was inspired to write a poem and I would like to share it with you.

The ancient coin

The face is life, the side that's clear,
Chasing dreams for a better year,
To spend with those so near and dear,
We have it all but we are not even here.

They flip the coin to forever disappear...
Leaving us before the grand premiere.
Death, a lesson for us to hear,
"Turn around to the side you most fear",

Tossing the life lived insincere,
Gazing into all that is near,
Only to find an empty rear...
The tale of tails is one to revere.

Isn't it ironic that even something as morbid as death can inspire the birth of poetry?

May this piece of writing help you become curious enough to flip the coin from life to death, and once you've known both sides of the ancient coin, flip around one last time from the known to the unknown...Take care and have a good day!
